Turn on the holiday music, grab some hot cocoa or perhaps a hot toddy and get ready to deck some halls, some trees, some doors and anything else that tickles your fancy! It’s time to get into the holiday spirit so we’ve rounded up 10 of our favorite decorating ideas for inspiration.
#1 Go Mad For Plaid
Yep, it’s back…but we’re not sure it was ever gone! From plaid ribbons and blankets to plaid pillows, it’s easy to create a stylish motif with a little pattern thrown in here, there and everywhere.
#2 Get Monochromatic
Simply put, coordinate your gift wrapping and ornaments with one color scheme – say Tiffany Blue and white, gold and burgundy, you decide but keep it simple and use no more than three colors to pull off this chic look.
#3 Garland For Days
Have large open windows? Try draping garland around to frame the windows and make a statement. Or use it as a runner down the middle of your table, wrapped around banisters or lay it along the mantle along with other decorations.
#4 Keep It Classic
Don’t forget your tried and true holiday staples like poinsettias, candy canes, cinnamon sticks, pine cones, stockings and even ornaments themselves. Finding new and creative ways to display or group these items can be a fun family activity, too!
#5 Light It Up
Mini lights, holiday lights, twinkling lights and even candle light – it all helps set the mood and adds whimsy and delight to your home. Think tabletop displays, fireplaces, archways and anywhere you might want to create some ambiance.
#6 Fake It
Artificial trees sometimes get a bad rap but they’re efficient, can be used over and over and don’t leave a mess behind. Not to mention you can purchase them pre-lit as well. For some extra holiday fun, purchase mini trees in addition to your real tree to add some spirit into other rooms – even your bedroom! And if you miss the smell of pine, just position some scented candles around.
#7 Get Crafty
Pick a fun project to do with friends and family to add a personal touch and make your holiday decorating more fun. From making your own advent calendar to creating a garland by stringing a bunch of mismatched mittens together or taking a plain coir mat and using stencils to create your own design, there are so many DIY ideas on Pinterest that fit with any holiday style!
#8 Create a Drink Station
Whether it’s a hot cocoa bar with all the fixings or a cocktail station – jazz the area up with festive elements – i.e. holiday themed napkins, garland, mini trees and maybe a plaid table cloth.
#9 Have Fun with Color
Who says you can’t have a pretty in pink holiday or even a rainbow colored tree?! Experiment and do what makes you feel jolly. Play with different color combinations like bright pinks and greens, reds and blues or different shades of just one color.
#10 Make Your Own Mantel
Don’t have a fireplace or mantel? Make one! Use the top of a console or dresser and store what you usually have on there in a box and then go crazy with creating your seasonal display. You can even attach a cloth wall hanging (painted with chalk paint) to create a fireplace.
