The best part of living in California? Camping is possible almost year-round! Even better, communities around the Sacramento and Bay Area have campsites stretching in every direction within a 100-mile radius. We’ve rounded up some of our favorite outdoor destinations that offer cozy lodging and thrilling recreation for a rejuvenating break from the everyday. You really can’t ever get bored living in this region!
Camping Closeby
For a brief getaway close to Sacramento, head to Folsom Lake State Recreation Area. This beautiful park is nestled in the Sierra Nevada foothills, offers three lakeside campgrounds and is just a 15-mile drive from our Woodbridge community in Roseville. Think how easy the car ride will be – perfect for kids and pets, too!

Open year-round, Beal’s Point is a family-friendly campground on Folsom Lake with comfortable amenities. The campground is also connected to the Jedediah Smith Memorial Trail where you can stay busy hiking, biking, horseback riding or jogging. If you are seeking seclusion and more wilderness, Peninsula campground is a great choice that’s located near the end of the peninsula between the north and south forks of the American River.
Into the Woods
Auburn State Recreation Area is another easy drive from Woodbridge. Located in the heart of the gold country, the park boasts more than 100 miles of trails and is home to four campgrounds, including a boat-in only campground at Lake Clementine (how cool is that?). Once teeming with thousands of gold miners, the area is now an adventure seeker’s paradise. Popular activities here include hiking, river access, boating, fishing, mountain biking, gold panning, horseback riding and off-highway motorcycle riding.
Top of the World
To stay close to home at Savannah II in Mountain House, take a 1.5-hour drive to Henry W. Coe State Park. Known as the largest state park in northern California, it offers more than 87,000 acres of wild open spaces. The Coe Ranch campground is located on top of an open ridge at 2,600 feet and offers views across the ridges and canyons of the backcountry and into the southern part of Santa Clara Valley.
Welcome Aboard
Whether you’re looking for an epic adventure or a relaxing day on the water, Pleasure Cove Marina has it all. Located just 60 miles away from our Sycamore community in Rohnert Park and on one of California’s largest bodies of freshwater, Lake Berryessa, it offers year-round recreation opportunities for the whole family. Stay in a houseboat, rent a cabin, bring your own RV or get wild camping in a tent. The opportunities are endless, and so is the fun!
Get Wild
The Eldorado National Forest is a fascinating destination situated near the original California gold discovery site on the American River at Coloma. To this day, it boasts numerous gold-bearing rivers and streams and offers a truly refreshing nature getaway. Just an hour away from Woodbridge, under 2 hours from Savannah II and 2.5 hours from Sycamore, the forest is home to dozens of little campgrounds as well as opportunities for cabin rentals. For a dose of glamping, consider the nearby Coloma Resort in Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park.
